It All Starts With a Great Layout
A well-planned walk-in robe does more than store your clothes — it makes getting ready easier every single day. The secret is in the design. When each section of your robe is designed around what you actually own and how you use it, everything has a place.
At Packers, our designers work with you to create a layout that makes the most of your space — combining the right mix of hanging, shelving, and drawer sections to suit your requirements.
Here's a look at the core storage zones that can make up a custom walk-in robe.
Drawer Unit
A drawer unit is the workhorse of any walk-in robe. Folded clothes, underwear, accessories, and everyday items all find a home here — neatly out of sight and easy to access.
Drawer units work well on their own, but they really shine when paired with the space above them. Depending on your needs, the area above can be configured with hanging rails or adjustable shelving.

Double Hanging Section
Double hanging is one of the most space-efficient configurations in a walk-in robe. By stacking two hanging rails — you effectively double your hanging capacity.
It's ideal for shorter items like shirts, jackets and hung trousers. If most of your wardrobe falls into this category, a generous double hanging section will do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Single/Long Hanging Section
For longer garments — dresses, coats and formal wear — a single hanging section is essential. Running from the top shelf to the floor with one rail, it gives full-length items the space they need without folding.
Most walk-in robes benefit from at least one dedicated single hanging section, even if the rest of the layout prioritises double hanging and shelving.

Shoe Tower
A shoe tower is a dedicated vertical unit designed specifically to store your footwear. Typically 300mm wide with around 10 shelves, it keeps shoes visible, paired, and easy to grab.
The shelves are adjustable, allowing standard shoes to sit comfortably on a closer spacing, but providing boots more room.

Shelving Unit
A shelving unit is a versatile zone made up entirely of shelves, running from the floor to the top shelf. Use it for handbags, folded jeans, hats, or anything that benefits from open, accessible storage.
It's a great way to add visual structure to your robe, breaking up hanging sections and creating a sense of order.

Shoe Shelves
Fixed shoe shelves are integrated directly into your hanging sections (space permitting) — tucked beneath the hanging rail where the floor space would otherwise go unused. It's a smart way to add dedicated shoe storage without giving up a separate zone for it.
Top Shelf Options
The top shelf runs across your storage zones and sets the height everything is built to — it's the reference point for your entire layout. At Packers, there are three main configurations to consider:
Standard top shelf at 2000mm. The most common height, suited to standard ceiling heights and is easy to reach.
Raised top shelf at 2100mm. An extra 100mm creates more room in the zones — particularly useful if you want taller single hanging or more generous shelving heights.
Double top shelf. Two shelves stacked, significantly increasing storage capacity for bulky or less-frequently used items like luggage, seasonal bedding, and spare pillows. Your designer will advise whether your ceiling height suits this configuration.

Every Walk-In Robe is Different
The sections above are the building blocks — but the best walk-in robes are the ones designed around the person using them.
That's why every Packers walk-in robe starts with a conversation. Our designers will look at your space, understand how you live, and work together to create a layout that works — not just one that looks good on paper.
