Stop Guessing, Start Planning

A walk-in robe that works isn't just about having more space — it's about having the right space. The difference between a robe you love and one that frustrates you comes down to how well the layout matches the way you actually live.

At Packers, our designers handle everything from measure through to installation. But the customers who get the most out of their design consultation are the ones who arrive knowing a little about what they own and how they use their wardrobe. This guide helps you think through exactly that.

Step 1: Take Stock of What You Own

Spend a few minutes looking at your current wardrobe honestly. You're not organising it — you're understanding it.

How much do you hang, and how long is it? The split between full-length items — dresses, coats, suits — and shorter items like shirts and workwear shapes your entire layout. Get it wrong and you'll run out of the hanging space you actually need.

How much do you fold? If you fold a lot, your layout needs to prioritise shelving and drawers, not just hanging.

How much footwear do you have? A modest collection works well in shoe shelves beneath a hanging section. A larger collection — especially boots — benefits from a dedicated shoe tower with adjustable shelves.

What are your bulky items? Luggage, seasonal bedding, gym bags. Easy to forget until installation day, but planning for them upfront means they'll have a proper home.

Step 2: Think About How You Get Ready

A great layout makes your daily routine easier — not just fits everything in.

Think about where you naturally stop when you're getting dressed. That's where your drawer unit belongs. Position it at the heart of your layout and everything else flows around it.

If you share the robe, consider separating hanging zones by person — even informally. And think about what you reach for every day versus occasionally. Daily items should be the most accessible. Seasonal storage and luggage are perfect for the top shelf — out of the way, but there when you need them.

Step 3: Know Your Zone Options

A walk-in robe is made up of individual zones, each designed for a specific type of storage. The skill is combining them in the right proportions for your room size and your life.

  • Double hanging stacks two rails to double your capacity — the workhorse of most layouts.
  • Single hanging runs floor to top shelf on one rail, essential for full-length garments.
  • Drawer units keep everyday items neat and accessible, with hanging or shelving above.
  • Shelf units offer open, adjustable storage for folded items and bags.
  • Shoe towers are dedicated vertical units with adjustable shelves for all footwear types.
  • Shoe shelves tuck beneath hanging sections, using floor space that would otherwise go to waste.
  • Shelving towers handle bulkier items — bags, folded jeans, and overflow storage.

Step 4: Choose Your Construction Method

How your robe is built determines its functionality and the accessories available to you. At Packers, there are three options.

Standard — A top-shelf and upright system that delivers a clean, high-end result at Packers most accessible price point. View →

Semi-Carcass — Built on a solid base with structural uprights for a built-in feel. Unlocks a broader range of premium accessories, including pull-out shoe shelves, jewellery drawers, and integrated Häfele LED lighting. View →

Full-Carcass — Fully enclosed cabinet boxes, Packers most structurally robust system. The complete premium result for a master suite where the robe is a feature of the home. View →
